All curriculum components—including workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities—are tailor-made to meet the needs of its members, with a strong focus on building expertise in mitochondrial biology.

The structured graduate programme for doctoral candidates corresponds to the central and mandatory core programme of the overarching Department Graduate Schools of the University of Cologne:
-Education in Good Scientific Practice
-Thesis advisory committees (TACs) consisting of the direct supervisor and two mentors
-Regular TAC meetings and written progress reports
