Research area B: Mitochondria in stress response and disease
Research within Area B explores how metabolic functions and morphological alterations of mitochondria contribute to cell signalling, cell metabolism and survival, in turn affecting mitochondrial dynamics and function. We investigate the role of different mitochondria-derived signalling molecules and study mitochondrial reprogramming and metabolism in different cell-specific and tissue-specific pathological contexts.
In the second funding period, we have further developed our research lines by including projects that explore the intracellular communications of mitochondria with pathogens and with other organelles. These basic studies will provide novel insights into the cell-type specificity of mitochondrial diseases.
