Abstract

Mitochondrial plasticity is critical to modulate T cell function in response to antigen-driven and environmental signals. This allows an effective immune surveillance and maintenance of tissue homeostasis while avoiding autoimmunity and inflammation. Cardiolipin is the characterizing and most abundant lipid species of the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM). A mouse model of cardiolipin (CL) synthesis deficiency in T cells presents with immunodeficiency upon infection and a multi-organ highly inflammatory state. How this is achieved is not clear. Therefore, in this project we will investigate the mechanisms and physiological consequences of CL-deficiency in T cells.
